Our Vision : “Personality development for Nation building”
Our Mission :
To enable : Young minds to discover and develop their potential in an environment conducive to learning.
To create : Technically competent young individuals with practical skills.
To develop: Socially conscious and morally upright global citizens for a new India.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service.
Since inception of the NSS in the year 1969, the number of students strength increased from 40,000 to over 3.8 million up to the end of March 2018 students in various universities, colleges and Institutions of higher learning have volunteered to take part in various community service programmes. All the youth volunteers who opt to serve the nation through the NSS led community service wear the NSS badge with pride and a sense of responsibility towards helping needy.
Red color in the badge signifies energy and spirit displayed by the NSS volunteers.
The Blue color signifies the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.
The NSS Unit of Bunts Sangha’s S.M.Shetty College, Powai consist of 2 units of 150 volunteers. Volunteers must complete 120 hours at University level, College level and at adopted area. Volunteers must also complete 7 Days Residential Camp in one of the adopted Village. The NSS Unit conducts various activities such as Blood Donation drive, Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, Theme based activities at college level and so on. This year our NSS unit has focused on Health, Education & Women Empowerment related activities.
Aims and Objectives
i. Understand the community in which they work.
ii. Understand themselves in relation to their community.
iii. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process.
iv. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
v. Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
vi. Develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities.
vii. Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
viii. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
ix. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
x. Practice national integration and social harmony.
Our NSS unit is having RRC unit. More than 46 NSS Volunteers has been actively involved in RRC activities. RRC members planned to conduct programmes and activities for them, also they planned to conduct awareness program for Municipal school children. 3 students trained by MDACS. Some of the activities of the RRC are as follows:
Peer education workshop attended
MDACS organized two days’ workshop for RRC leaders on 30 August and 1 September at MDACS office Wadala. 3 NSS volunteers attended this training program..
Registration
MDACS had given detail plan for the RRC activities to all colleges. In this plan registration from was given to every RRC unit to do the membership as RRC members. 46 RRC members distributed 500 forms in the college for the membership.
Poster display in campus on HIV/AIDS
Poster on HIV/AIDS and STD were displayed in campus. Many students along with teachers visited these posts. All the posters were self-explanatory and informative.
Awareness programmes at adopted area and Village on HIV/AIDS
NSS volunteers are conducting computer Literacy program with BMC School. As a part of awareness program and morel studies, NSS volunteers conducted awareness programme with them. Through the Displaying posters and question answering session. Student was open up with their quires and volunteers were well prepared to give them answers.
INIZIO is the intercollegiate fest of our college. INIZIO is an Italian word which means “New Beginning”. The Theme for our fest was Health & Education, Hygiene and Women Empowerment.
Over 396 participants and 26 colleges from all over Mumbai had participated in the fest. The fest witnessed the presence of Esteemed Chief Guest Mr. Abhijeet Sawant who is One of India’s most versatile and talented performers And India Idol Season 1 Winner. The Fest Had Events like Singing (Solo, Duet), Rap (Solo), Dance (Solo/Group), March past, Beg, Borrow & Steel, Face Painting, Debate, Best out of Waste, Short Film, and Street Play.
